CSRM risk management from California Schools JPA provides a comprehensive, self-funded workers’ compensation program. Self-funding enables us to provide innovative solutions and create nimble strategies to mitigate costs and address the economic challenges public entities face. The world of workers’ compensation can be complex and difficult to manage, especially without the right resources. That’s why CSRM risk management provides each of its’ members a dedicated workers’ compensation manager and a dedicated risk manager – to make sure you have the right resources, right when you need them. 

Our worker’s compensation program and our partnerships were established with the goal of ensuring your district and your employees are provided with excellent service from us, high quality healthcare from our providers, and knowledgeable claims handling so your employees can return to health, and be happy and productive following their work-related injuries.  

Our Workers’ Compensation Program includes: 

  

  • Choice of third-party administrator (TPA). Our members can choose between our esteemed partners, Hazelrigg Claims Management Services (HCMS) or York Claims Services Inc., to provide claims management. Both TPAs are experienced with managing workers’ compensation claims for public schools and community colleges and understand the intricacies of the Education Code and how it integrates with Labor Code. Each TPA provides:  
  1. Dedicated claims adjusters 
  2. Manageable caseloads, not-to-exceed 125 
  3. Electronic access to your claims 
  • Dedicated risk managers on staff. Our members are assigned a dedicated risk manager who will assist with creating, updating, and implementing loss control measures and action plans to prevent injuries from occurring.  
  • Ergonomic evaluations. Your dedicated risk manager on staff will perform ergonomic evaluations – at no cost – to prevent a claim from occurring. 
  • Nurse triage and claim reporting to our nurse intake hotline when an injury occurs. The intake nurse will triage the injury and refer the injured worker to a designated medical facility or make recommendations for self-treatment of first-aid type claims. 
  • Quality medical care provided through a state approved Medical Provider Network (MPN). Each of the providers in the MPN understand the intricacies of workers’ compensation and how their decisions and treatments affect our members. 
  • Partnership with Pharmacy Benefit Management to mitigate the high cost of medications and their impact on the cost of a claim. 
  • Robust transitional Return-to-Work program  
  • Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys who specialize in Education Code and Public Entities. 
  • Quarterly File Reviews to ensure each member is aware of the status of their claims and to ensure the progression and successful resolution of claims. 
  • Numerous training options for standard compliance trainings as well as specialized workers’ compensation trainings for both staff and supervisors at your district 
  • Quarterly workers’ compensation focus group and training designed for members to develop a better understanding of the complexities of workers’ compensation. Quarterly topics are based on current trends, suggested best practices, and/or member requests and questions.

Our Claims Management Team ensures efficient and effective claims handling and litigation while protecting the interest and reputation of our members.  By fostering a collaborative cost-effective claims partnership among members, defense counsel, TPA adjusters, and our claims management team, claims are managed professionally and proactively from start to finish for the best possible claim resolution.  

Our Loss Control Team is comprised of ARM certified Risk Managers (field consultants) trained to identify the root causes of member loss exposure, recommend appropriate mitigation strategies, create customized solutions, and provide employee training to help to reduce future losses.

  • Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) The high cost of medications can have a significant impact on the cost of a claim. Knowing that, we have partnered with a PBM to help mitigate the costs.

  • Risk Managers Dedicated risk managers who assist with implementing loss control measures to prevent injuries from occurring and developing loss control action plans.
