Updates at the JPA

Congratulations to Val, Alex, and Ed for completing their Associates in Risk Management (ARM)! To earn their ARM designation, they passed 3 foundation courses that equipped them with awareness and knowledge of key risk concepts. ARM focuses on all aspects of risk management and teaches the science of risk management while providing the necessary skills and understanding to avoid, reduce, and manage risk. It is a rigorous set of courses that require dedication and skill to earn. Congratulations Val, Alex, and Ed! The team’s new CEASTM designations will help lessen the cost to districts by:

  • · Providing in-house OSHA compliant ergonomic training and analysis
  • · Helping improve the overall health of your employees
  • · Creating safe work environments
  • · Mitigating potential risks and potential claims

Congratulations Team!

With the passage of AB 1266, the “School Success and Opportunity Act”, the discrimination and harassment issues of transgender students have been brought to the forefront of school discussions. The bill states that all students “be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.” Further, as of March 1, 2017, California is requiring that all public places with single-use restrooms have non-gender-specific signage. Make sure you check your school sites for this legal compliance. The Federal government has recently issued a retraction of previously issued presidential memorandums that outlined federal guidelines regarding the issue. President Trump has for now identified this as a States’ rights concern. This means, there will be no change for California with regard to AB 1266.
